Les d\u00e9buts de Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui en tant que chor\u00e9graphe ont eu lieu en 1999 avec la com\u00e9die musicale contemporaine d'Andrew Wale, Anonymous Society. Depuis, il a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 plus de 50 pi\u00e8ces chor\u00e9graphiques \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re et a remport\u00e9 de nombreux prix, dont deux Olivier Awards, deux prix Ballet Tanz du meilleur chor\u00e9graphe (2008, 2011) et le prix Kairos (2009) pour sa vision artistique et son qu\u00eate du dialogue interculturel.<\/p>

Les premi\u00e8res pi\u00e8ces de Cherkaoui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9es aux Ballets C. de la B. \u2013 Rien de Rien (2000), Foi (2003) et Tempus Fugit (2004). Il entreprend des projets parall\u00e8les qui \u00e0 la fois \u00e9largissent et consolident sa vision artistique ; D'avant (2002) avec son partenaire artistique de longue date Damien Jalet de la compagnie Sasha Waltz & Guest et Zero Degrees (2005) avec Akram Khan. Il a travaill\u00e9 avec divers th\u00e9\u00e2tres, op\u00e9ras et compagnies de ballet. De 2004 \u00e0 2009, Cherkaoui \u00e9tait bas\u00e9 \u00e0 Anvers en tant qu'artiste en r\u00e9sidence \u00e0 la Toneelhuis, qui a produit Myth (2007) et Origine (2008).<\/p>

En 2008, Cherkaoui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 Sutra au Sadler's Wells. Cette collaboration prim\u00e9e avec l'artiste Antony Gormley et les moines Shaolin continue de parcourir le monde avec un grand succ\u00e8s critique. Apr\u00e8s sa premi\u00e8re commande en Am\u00e9rique du Nord, Orbo Novo (Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet) et une s\u00e9rie de duos tels que Faun (cr\u00e9\u00e9 \u00e0 Sadler's Wells dans le cadre de In the Spirit of Diaghilev) et Dunas avec la danseuse flamenco Mar\u00eda Pag\u00e9s (tous deux en 2009 ), il lance sa propre compagnie Eastman, en r\u00e9sidence au deSingel International Arts Campus (Anvers)<\/p>

Au printemps 2010, il retrouve le chor\u00e9graphe Damien Jalet et Antony Gormley pour cr\u00e9er Babel(mots) qui remporte un Olivier. La m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, il cr\u00e9e Rein, un duo avec Guro Nagelhus Schia et Vebj\u00f8rn Sundby, ainsi que Play, un duo avec la danseuse de Kuchipudi Shantala Shivalingappa et Bound, un duo pour Shanell Winlock et Gregory Maqoma dans le cadre de Southern Bound Comfort. En 2011, il cr\u00e9e TeZukA et Labyrinth (pour le Dutch National Ballet). En 2012, il cr\u00e9e Puz\/zle, qui lui vaut un deuxi\u00e8me Olivier. Cette ann\u00e9e-l\u00e0, il collabore \u00e9galement avec Joe Wright sur son film Anna Kar\u00e9nine, pour lequel Cherkaoui r\u00e9alise la chor\u00e9graphie.<\/p>

2013 a vu la premi\u00e8re de 4D et \u751f\u957fgenesis (Eastman), Bol\u00e9ro (co-cr\u00e9\u00e9 avec Damien Jalet et Marina Abramovi\u0107, pour le Ballet de l'Op\u00e9ra de Paris) et m\u00a1longa (Sadler's Wells). Il a retrouv\u00e9 Joe Wright pour co-r\u00e9aliser A Season in the Congo au Young Vic. En 2014, il cr\u00e9e Noetic pour les G\u00f6teborgsOperans Danskompani, Mercy (de Solo for Two) pour Natalia Osipova et Ivan Vasiliev, qu'ils jouent au London Coliseum et il met en sc\u00e8ne son premier op\u00e9ra, Shell Shock, pour La Monnaie, sur une musique de Nicholas. Objectif et texte de Nick Cave.<\/p>

En 2015, Cherkaoui a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 sa premi\u00e8re production th\u00e9\u00e2trale compl\u00e8te Pluto bas\u00e9e sur la s\u00e9rie manga prim\u00e9e de Naoki Urasawa et Takashi Nagasaki \u00e0 Bunkamura \u00e0 Tokyo, donnant vie sur sc\u00e8ne au personnage de manga bien-aim\u00e9 Astro Boy, et a \u00e9t\u00e9 directeur du mouvement pour Lyndsey. Turner's Hamlet avec Benedict Cumberbatch au Barbican Centre de Londres. Il a \u00e9galement cr\u00e9\u00e9 un trio Harbour Me command\u00e9 par le LA Dance Project et a chor\u00e9graphi\u00e9 un nouveau Firebird pour le Stuttgart Ballet. La m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, Cherkaoui cr\u00e9e une nouvelle production Fractus V pour sa compagnie Eastman, dans laquelle il se produit \u00e9galement.<\/p>

Depuis 2015, Cherkaoui assume le r\u00f4le de directeur artistique du Ballet Royal de Flandre, o\u00f9 il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 Automne (2015), Tableaux d'une exposition (2016) et Requiem (2017). Il cumule cette fonction avec son titre de directeur artistique d'Eastman et continue de cr\u00e9er de nouvelles \u0153uvres avec l'entourage artistique de cette compagnie, par exemple Qutb (2016), trio command\u00e9 par Natalia Osipova, les op\u00e9ras Les Indes Galantes (2016) pour la Bayerische Staatsoper et Satyagraha (2017) pour le Theater Basel, Icon (2016) pour le G\u00f6teborgsOperans Danskompani et Mosaic (2017) pour la Martha Graham Dance Company. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui est \u00e9galement artiste associ\u00e9 au Sadler's Wells, Londres.<\/p>
